Chissick Chat, part seventeen, with Thomas Samson

For part seventeen, I would like to welcome a good friend of mine to my blog today, Scottish author and fellow writer of erotic romance, Thomas Samson.

Hi, and welcome to my blog. Please can you introduce yourself and tell us a little about yourself and your books? – Hi, I’m Thomas Samson or Tommy to most folk… Tucker if you know me well enough. I’m a 40something husband and dad from a small town in south-west East Ayrshire, Scotland. My day job is in a franchise car dealership where I supply parts and administer warranty claims. Writing is my escape from all that.

What, or who, inspires you? – My late dad inspires me to live my life the best I can. He died of cancer at the age of 32, I was only four at the time. I like to think that he’s somewhere watching and is proud of what I’ve done so far. The inspiration for my writing mainly comes from my love of football and an old fashioned romantic.

Do you enjoy reading the same genre as the one you write in? – I actually don’t read all that much these days. But I have read a few novels in the genre I write, as a source of research and ideas of what might work. There are not a lot of authors out there that write football based erotic romance though.

Has any of your research taken you to an unusual place? – Most of my research actually comes from places I’ve been or things I’ve done. Playing Offside is mostly based in Milton Keynes, a place I know well from countless visits there through work. Having also worked as an evens safety steward at football matches, I’ve been lucky to have had access to parts of football stadia that the general public don’t get to see.

What are you working on at the moment? – I’ve started on the next chapter of Shane Henderson’s life and I’m also toying with the idea of doing a back story novelette filling in part of what he’s been up to. The next novel is set five years from where Playing Offside finished. A lot has changed in his life and I feel I need to give the readers a little insight into why.

What are your future writing plans? – I plan to carry on with Shane’s life and hopefully get a couple more novels out of him.

Is there anything you don’t like about writing/being an author? – I don’t like that the market is saturated with eBooks by anyone who thinks they can write something and that poorly written books sell more than books where authors have spent a great deal of time writing, editing, promoting and getting little or no return. Also, lack of reviews annoys me. I know how many books I’ve sold, reviews fall far short of that. Feedback is important.
